Valerie's House- Fort Myers volunteer Will Farrell felt an immediate connection to the children as soon as he walked through the doors for training in May 2022.

After only three months of working with the Valerie's House "middles" group, Will has stepped up as a strong and consistent leader that kids can count on.

"I've learned a lot about myself and my emotions," Will said. "I want to be someone the kids can look up to and know that everything's going to be okay."

Will has two personal stories of loss that allow him to connect directly with our grieving children.

His mother died by suicide during his freshman year of college. Two years later, Will's roommate also died by suicide, leaving him with unanswered questions and mixed emotions.

"Volunteering has taught me more about strength and perseverance," Will said. "I admire these kids as they show up to group, face their emotions, and talk about the hard things. It's incredible. It's something more than I was willing to do in the early times after my losses."

Will discovered Valerie's House while in college during a class that required volunteer hours.

He took some time to think about the opportunity and eventually felt that he could use his experience to connect with others who are grieving. Will said volunteering has been a very rewarding experience.

"My favorite part about volunteering is seeing how excited and appreciative the kids genuinely are when they come to group night," Will said.
